Welcome to Culinary Goods a journal written by Trevor Walker. It includes a growing collection of simple recipes that I refer to when cooking for our own family and some reflections on (mostly) culinary topics. Feel free to post comments and share your own family's tried and true recipes.

Elaine & Max transfer their culinary legacy to a new generation

Best wishes to Elaine and Max Steiger as they begin their retirement. Elaine and Max have owned and operated Mountain Ash Farm since 1967 using natural farming practices. The farm is in the Kelly Creek area of Powell River. They raised five children there, producing natural healthy food. Over the years they raised beef, pork, lamb and chevon (goat), as well as dairy cows and almost every kind of poultry – from chickens to pheasants to emus. They maintained a small market garden to produce as many vegetables as possible for the amazing preserves produced on the farm. Their preserves are a favourite of mine and of many, many customers at Plenty. So I am delighted to report that Brooks Secondary School will be continuing their delectable work and teaching Elaine’s culinary art to a new generation. This student run enterprise will operate under the guidance of Chef Mike Austin and Business Teacher Anne Hutchings. They will be operating this as a complete business course by September! In the interim, I’ve attempted to order as much of Elaine’s remaining stock as I can. So stock-up on your favourites!
