Salt of Life

We have a beautiful new salt at Plenty.  Christyna Melnyk was travelling in Nepal in 2000 and happened across Himalayan Pink Salt. Christyna is allergic to every other kind of salt, but discovered that she can use this ancient “Salt of Life” from the Himalayas.

What makes it so special? Christyna wanted to know more and with the help of BCIT she determined that Himalayan Pink Salt contains all of the 84 trace minerals found in the human body and, remarkably, in the same proportions.

Himalayan Pink Salt is a mineral-rich luxury salt, hand mined from the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains and imported by Salt of Life into BC.

Some information adapted from www.saltoflife.ca:

It takes over 250,000,000 years to form this salt. Natural and distinctively pink, it has a crystalline structure and is considered by many to be the highest quality natural crystal salt available.

It was once reserved exclusively for royalty and nicknamed “the king’s salt” or “Salt of Life”.

A comparison of types of salt:

Table Salt
Created in factory environments, the sterile cubic crystals of processed table salt are isolated and dead.

Sea Salt
Salt labeled “Sea Salt” can be an improvement over table salt. However, modern seas and oceans are polluted, requiring that the salt undergo processing. In the magnified image, irregular and isolated crystalline structures are disconnected from other trace elements.

The balanced crystalline structure reveals fine branching, without shadows or rough edges. The crystal is connected to trace elements, embracing them for easy processing by the body.
